Our History

The History of Alongside Ministries

Alongside Ministries International is dedicated to sharing the hope of Christ by serving alongside Christian leaders across Europe and North America. Our roots reach back to the 1960s and 1970s, when relationships formed across cultures through prayer, friendship, and a shared passion for renewal—values that continue to shape our work today.

Since our founding in 1978, and incorporation as a nonprofit Christian ministry in 1983, Alongside has grown from a short-term exchange program into an international training and sending mission. Over the years, we have sent teams to Europe on "Alongside Discovery" trips to learn and serve; some of our long-term "Alongsiders" found their mission calling through this experience! We have also had Europeans serve in American churches and at Christian camps. Today, we support short-term projects, exchanges, trips, Christian camps, and long-term Alongsiders walking alongside local churches and leaders in Albania, Czechia, Estonia, France, Scotland, and throughout North America—investing in people, discipleship, and ministry.
